war fatigue
Soldier's prolonged strain
War fatigue is the exhaustion and declining morale that comes from prolonged exposure to war—whether among soldiers enduring combat, civilians living through conflict, or distant populations following war news.
It manifests as emotional numbness, loss of interest, and waning support for continued fighting: War fatigue set in after the third year of fighting.
The term also names a specific form of combat stress recognized after World War I, now more often called combat fatigue or PTSD.
