visual comedy
Humor through sight
Visual comedy is humor that works through what you see rather than what you hear—physical gags, sight gags, pratfalls, and visual absurdities.
Silent film comedians like Chaplin and Keaton mastered the form, but it persists in slapstick, animation, and any comedy that would still be funny with the sound off: The visual comedy of someone walking into a glass door needs no explanation.
