vice chancellor
Academic institution's second
A vice chancellor is a deputy or second-in-command to a chancellor.
In British and Commonwealth universities, the vice chancellor is actually the chief executive officer—the chancellor being a largely ceremonial figurehead.
In American universities, vice chancellors serve under the chancellor as senior administrators overseeing specific areas: vice chancellor for academic affairs, vice chancellor of research.
In legal systems, a vice chancellor may be a judge in chancery court.
