vessel sink
Bowl-shaped washbasin above
A vessel sink is a basin that sits on top of a counter or vanity rather than being recessed into it.
The bowl—typically round or oval—rests like a vessel on a surface, with the faucet mounted on the wall or counter beside it.
Vessel sinks are popular in contemporary bathroom design for their sculptural appearance: The glass vessel sink added a modern touch to the powder room.
