verbal contract
Oral binding promise
A verbal contract is an agreement made through spoken words rather than written documentation.
Such contracts are legally binding in many situations, though harder to prove than written ones: We had a verbal contract, but he denies ever agreeing to those terms.
The phrase often appears when disputes arise over informal agreements.
Also called an oral contract.
