ventilation shafts
Building airflow channels
Ventilation shafts are vertical or angled passages built into structures to allow air circulation—bringing fresh air in or expelling stale air out.
They appear in mines, tunnels, buildings, and underground facilities.
In action films, ventilation shafts are famously depicted as crawlspaces through which heroes infiltrate buildings, though real ones are rarely so accommodating: He escaped through the ventilation shaft.
