use permit
Official land authorization
A use permit is official authorization allowing a specific activity on a property, particularly when that use doesn't conform to standard zoning regulations.
Also called a conditional use permit or special use permit, it lets someone operate a business, build a structure, or conduct activities that require case-by-case approval: The restaurant needed a use permit to serve alcohol outdoors.
The permit typically comes with conditions the holder must meet.
