urban elites
Metropolitan upper class
Urban elites is a political term for educated, affluent city dwellers perceived as culturally influential and out of touch with ordinary people.
The phrase carries populist resentment, implying that coastal professionals—academics, journalists, tech workers—hold values and lifestyles alien to rural or working-class Americans: The urban elites don't understand what matters to real Americans.
Often used disparagingly by conservatives.
