unedible

Unfit for eating

Unedible means not fit to be eaten—either indigestible, toxic, or simply not food: The decorative fruits were unedible.

The word is rarer than inedible, which carries the same meaning.

Some speakers use unedible for things that were never meant to be food and inedible for food that's been ruined, but this distinction isn't consistent.
