understock
Keep too few
Understock means to keep insufficient inventory or supply on hand.
A store that understocks risks empty shelves and lost sales: We understocked sunscreen and ran out by mid-July.
The term applies to any situation where available quantities fall short of demand.
The opposite is overstock.
