underground mall
Buried shopping center
An underground mall is a shopping center built below street level, typically beneath a city's downtown area.
These developments often connect to transit stations and office buildings, allowing pedestrians to shop and move between locations without going outside—particularly valuable in cities with harsh winters: Montreal's underground mall system spans miles beneath the city.
