outdoor mall
Roofless retail center
An outdoor mall is a shopping center where stores face open-air walkways rather than enclosed corridors.
Unlike traditional enclosed malls, outdoor malls expose shoppers to the elements, though they often feature covered walkways or canopies.
The design became popular in warm climates and spread as enclosed malls declined: The outdoor mall has a fountain plaza where people gather.
Also called an open-air mall or lifestyle center.
