underexposures
Too-dark film results
Underexposures are instances of insufficient light reaching photographic film or a digital sensor, resulting in images that are too dark.
The term applies both to the error and to the photographs themselves: The roll came back full of underexposures.
Figuratively rare, but the concept extends to any insufficient exposure or attention: The underexposures in his research became apparent during review.
