ultraviolent
Gratuitously, excessively vicious
Ultraviolent describes extreme, excessive, or gratuitous violence, typically in media depictions.
The term gained currency from Anthony Burgess's novel *A Clockwork Orange*, where the narrator uses it casually to describe brutal acts: a bit of the old ultraviolence.
It now characterizes films, video games, or other content featuring graphic, over-the-top violence: The movie was criticized for its ultraviolent scenes.
