ultraviolence

Beyond mere aggression

Ultraviolence is extreme, often stylized brutality—violence pushed beyond ordinary limits into something excessive or theatrical.

The term gained currency from Anthony Burgess's novel *A Clockwork Orange*, where teenage gangs commit savage acts for pleasure.

It now describes graphic violence in film, video games, or other media: The director is known for ultraviolence and dark humor.

The word implies violence as spectacle rather than merely depicted harm.
