twelfth step
Recovery's last phase
The twelfth step is the final stage of Alcoholics Anonymous and other twelve-step recovery programs, which calls on members to carry the program's message to others still struggling with addiction.
As a verb, to twelfth-step someone is to reach out and offer help: He twelfth-stepped me when I was at my lowest.
The term sometimes carries a cynical edge when the outreach seems more about the helper's needs than the helped.
