self-focus

Turning gaze inward

Self-focus is attention directed inward toward one's own thoughts, feelings, or behaviors.

The term appears in psychology to describe heightened awareness of oneself as an object of observation: Anxiety often increases self-focus.

It can be neutral or negative—useful for self-reflection, but excessive self-focus may fuel depression or social awkwardness.
