tuneup
Mechanic's routine service
A tuneup is routine maintenance performed on an engine to keep it running smoothly—replacing spark plugs, adjusting timing, checking filters.
The term extends to any minor adjustment or preparation: The team had one last tuneup game before the playoffs.
A tuneup can also mean a brief, easy contest before a more serious one.
