tree rats
Acorn-hoarding branch dwellers
Tree rats is a dismissive term for squirrels, emphasizing their status as rodents despite their fluffy tails and acrobatic charm.
The phrase reflects the attitude of gardeners, bird-feeder owners, and others who consider squirrels pests rather than wildlife: Those tree rats cleaned out my feeder again.
