ground hogs
Burrowing North American marmots
Groundhogs are large North American rodents of the squirrel family, also called woodchucks.
They're known for burrowing and hibernating.
In American folklore, Groundhog Day (February 2) holds that if a groundhog emerges and sees its shadow, six more weeks of winter follow.
We saw a groundhog in the backyard.
