A traveller's cheque is a preprinted certificate for a fixed amount, purchased from a bank or financial institution, that can be exchanged for cash or used as payment while traveling abroad.
The buyer signs it once when purchasing and again when cashing, providing security against theft.
Once essential for international travel, traveller's cheques have been largely displaced by credit cards and ATMs.
