travel sketches
Wanderer's visual journal
Travel sketches are written or drawn impressions from a journey—quick, informal renderings of places, people, or scenes encountered while traveling.
The term applies both to literary pieces capturing travel observations and to artists' on-location drawings.
Unlike polished travel writing, sketches suggest immediacy and spontaneity: Her travel sketches from Morocco filled three notebooks.
The form flourished in the nineteenth century as a genteel pursuit.
