A trap set is the standard drum kit in popular music—bass drum, snare, hi-hat, tom-toms, and cymbals arranged for one seated player.
The name comes from the early 20th century when drummers consolidated various percussion "traps" (contraptions) into a single setup.
Also called a trap kit or simply traps: He's been playing traps since he was twelve.
