tracer round
Visible flight path
A tracer round is a bullet or projectile containing a pyrotechnic charge that burns brightly during flight, making its trajectory visible.
Tracers help shooters adjust their aim and are typically loaded at intervals among regular ammunition: Every fifth round was a tracer.
The visible path also reveals the shooter's position.
