Tortoni is an Italian frozen dessert made with eggs, cream, and crushed almonds or macaroons, typically served in small paper cups.
It was popular in American restaurants through the mid-twentieth century: We finished with spumoni and tortoni.
The dessert is richer and denser than ice cream, closer to a semifreddo.
