Figuring the gratuity
Tip calculation is the process of figuring out how much gratuity to leave, typically at a restaurant.
The standard method multiplies the bill by a percentage—15 to 20 percent in American dining.
Mental shortcuts abound: double the tax, move the decimal and double it, or round up for easy math.
I'm terrible at tip calculation after a few drinks.
