tick removal
Detaching embedded arachnid
Tick removal is the process of extracting an embedded tick from skin.
The standard method uses fine-tipped tweezers to grasp the tick as close to the skin as possible and pull upward with steady pressure, avoiding twisting or crushing.
Folk remedies like matches or petroleum jelly are discouraged because they may cause the tick to regurgitate infectious material.
Proper tick removal reduces the risk of Lyme disease.
