test screening
Pre-release audience viewing
A test screening is a preview showing of a film to a sample audience before its official release.
Studios use test screenings to gauge reactions, identify problems, and sometimes reshoot scenes or change endings based on feedback: The movie tested poorly, so they recut the third act.
Also called a preview screening or sneak preview.
