tare weight
Empty vessel measurement
Tare weight is the weight of a container or vehicle without its contents—the empty weight you subtract to find what's actually inside.
A truck's tare weight is weighed empty; subtract that from the loaded weight to get the cargo weight.
The term appears on packaging, shipping documents, and scales: Tare weight: 2.3 oz.
