talking movies
Films with dialogue
Talking movies, also called talkies, were motion pictures with synchronized sound—specifically dialogue—as distinguished from silent films.
The term belongs to the late 1920s and early 1930s, when sound technology was revolutionary: The Jazz Singer was among the first talking movies.
Now archaic, since virtually all movies have sound.
