patronized
Treated as inferior
Patronized is the past tense of patronize, which has two distinct senses.
To patronize a business is to be its customer: She patronized the same bakery for thirty years.
To patronize a person is to treat them as inferior, speaking down to them with condescending kindness: He explained the basics in a tone that left her feeling patronized.
The second sense dominates contemporary usage.
