Taboo thoughts are ideas or mental images that feel forbidden, shameful, or disturbing to the person having them—often involving violence, sex, blasphemy, or other socially unacceptable content.
The term appears frequently in discussions of OCD and intrusive thoughts, where unwanted mental content causes distress precisely because it violates the thinker's values: Everyone has taboo thoughts sometimes; it doesn't mean you'd act on them.
