surplusage
More than needed
Surplusage is excess or surplus—matter beyond what is needed.
In legal contexts, it refers to irrelevant or superfluous language in a document that courts may disregard: The judge struck the surplusage from the complaint.
More broadly, it describes any unnecessary addition: His speech was full of surplusage that obscured the main point.
