superstation

A superstation is a television broadcast station whose signal is distributed nationally via cable or satellite, reaching far beyond its local market.

The term emerged in the 1970s and 1980s when stations like WTBS in Atlanta pioneered the model, offering their programming to cable systems across the country.

Superstations typically featured movies, sports, and syndicated shows that appealed to broad audiences.
