stunt casting
Fame over talent
Stunt casting is hiring an actor for a role based on their fame or novelty rather than their suitability for the part.
The goal is generating publicity or attracting viewers who might not otherwise watch: The sitcom's stunt casting of a former president boosted ratings.
The term often carries a dismissive tone, implying the casting prioritizes buzz over artistic merit.
