stretcher bar
Painting support wood
A stretcher bar is one of the wooden strips that form the frame over which canvas is stretched for painting.
Artists assemble stretcher bars—typically four pieces with mitered, interlocking corners—to create a rigid support that holds the canvas taut.
The bars often have slots for small wooden wedges called keys, which can be tapped in to tighten a sagging canvas.
