A stigmatized group is a category of people marked by social disapproval, discrimination, or shame based on shared characteristics—race, illness, sexuality, occupation, or behavior.
The stigma may be visible or concealable: People with mental illness remain a stigmatized group in many workplaces.
Members often face barriers to employment, housing, and social acceptance.
