souchong
Smoky Chinese tea
Souchong is a variety of black tea from China, distinguished by its large leaves picked from a lower position on the tea plant.
The most familiar type is lapsang souchong, which has a distinctive smoky flavor produced by drying the leaves over pine fires.
The name comes from Cantonese words meaning "small sort," referring to the leaf grade rather than the tea's strength.
