sobriety chip
Abstinence milestone marker
A sobriety chip is a token given in Alcoholics Anonymous and similar recovery programs to mark periods of abstinence from alcohol or drugs.
Chips typically represent milestones—24 hours, 30 days, 90 days, one year, and so on.
Recipients often carry them as reminders of their commitment to sobriety: She keeps her six-month chip in her pocket.
