snow bridge
Frozen crevasse span
A snow bridge is a natural arch of compacted snow spanning a crevasse or gap in a glacier.
These formations develop when windblown snow accumulates across an opening, creating a frozen span that may or may not support a person's weight.
Snow bridges are a significant hazard in mountaineering—they can appear solid while concealing deep crevasses beneath: The climber fell through a snow bridge and dangled in his harness.
