slasher genre
Masked murderer films
The slasher genre is a category of horror film centered on a killer who stalks and murders victims, typically teenagers, one by one—usually with bladed weapons.
The genre emerged in the late 1970s with films like *Halloween* and *Friday the 13th*, establishing conventions: masked villains, final girls who survive, creative death sequences, and moralistic undertones where sex or misbehavior invites doom.
