slapstick humor
Pie-in-face gags
Slapstick humor is comedy built on exaggerated physical mishaps—pratfalls, pie-in-the-face gags, characters walking into walls or getting hit with objects.
The name comes from a hinged paddle that made a loud slapping sound in commedia dell'arte performances.
The genre emphasizes visible, often violent absurdity over wit or wordplay: The Three Stooges were masters of slapstick humor.
