singing cowboy
Crooning Western horseman
A singing cowboy is a character type from American Western films and radio of the 1930s-50s—a romanticized cowboy hero who sings rather than brawls his way through adventures.
Gene Autry and Roy Rogers defined the genre.
The term now sometimes describes any performer blending country music with cowboy imagery: He dressed like a singing cowboy at the county fair.
