shut-off

Valve that stops

A shut-off is a device or mechanism that stops the flow of something—water, gas, electricity, fuel: The plumber located the main water shut-off.

It also names the act of stopping such flow: an automatic shut-off when the tank is full.

As a modifier, it describes valves or switches that perform this function: shut-off valve, shut-off switch.
