short-order

Fast greasy spoon

Short-order describes food that can be prepared quickly, or the style of cooking that produces it: a short-order cook, short-order breakfast.

The term comes from restaurant kitchens where dishes are made to order in minutes rather than prepared in advance.

By extension, short-order can mean quick or on-demand: He's not your short-order servant.
