short-haul flights
Quick hops aloft
Short-haul flights are airline trips covering relatively short distances, typically under three hours or roughly 1,500 kilometers.
The term appears most often in discussions of environmental impact, since short-haul routes face competition from trains and generate disproportionate carbon emissions per passenger: France banned some short-haul flights where rail alternatives exist.
Contrast with long-haul flights.
