shooting star wish
Streak-prompted silent plea
A shooting star wish is the folk custom of making a wish upon seeing a meteor streak across the night sky.
The belief holds that wishes made in that fleeting moment have special power to come true.
The practice is common enough that make a wish is the reflexive response to spotting one: Quick, shooting star—make a wish!
