shock tactics

Overwhelming force strategy

Shock tactics originally described military strategy using sudden, overwhelming force to break enemy lines—cavalry charges, blitzkrieg assaults.

The term now applies more broadly to any approach designed to provoke strong reactions through startling or disturbing content: The campaign used shock tactics to raise awareness about drunk driving.

The goal is attention through disruption rather than persuasion through argument.
