shallow well
Near-surface water source
A shallow well is a water well that draws from groundwater close to the surface, typically less than 25 feet deep.
These wells tap into unconfined aquifers and can be dug by hand or drilled with simple equipment.
Because of their proximity to the surface, shallow wells are more vulnerable to contamination from runoff and drought conditions than deep wells.
