sergers

Seam trimming machines

Sergers are sewing machines that trim, stitch, and finish fabric edges in a single pass, creating the stretchy, professional seams found on most commercial garments.

Unlike standard sewing machines, sergers use multiple threads—typically three or four—to encase raw edges and prevent fraying.

Also called overlock machines.

I use my serger for knit fabrics.
